University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) NHS Trust provides acute and specialist paediatric services for Leicester and the surrounding hospitals in the South East Midlands including: allergy, congenital heart disease, endocrinology, ENT, gastroenterology, haematology, infectious diseases, neurology, NICU, oncology, paediatric surgery, PICU, and respiratory medicine.

Children’s services within UHL are undergoing a significant change with the plans underway for a bespoke Children’s Hospital at the Leicester Royal Infirmary site. Part of this new development will begin in December 2020 with the relocation of East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre from Glenfield hospital to Leicester Royal Infirmary.

We are seeking applications for 3 permanent full time Consultants in acute and general paediatrics. The successful applicants will provide and support an outpatient and in-patient service within the Trust, and will work with the team to develop network based, integrated services both within the Trust and in partnership with tertiary, secondary and primary care.

The successful appointee will be expected to participate in the paediatric consultant of the week rota, outpatient clinics, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and clinical audit, also on call duties on a rota basis. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team. As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced police criminal records disclosure will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application.
