We're currently looking for a Sister / Charge Nurse to complement our award winning Primary Healthcare Team delivering healthcare to very vulnerable and highly complex young people. As a team, we work with children both boys and girls aged 10 - 18 that are on remand and are unsure what their future holds. Young people that are on trial, young people that are sentenced, sometimes for life, for some it is the first time in a secure setting, for some it's their 3rd or 4th. We a lso work with some of the most vulnerable children in society that are placed with us for reasons of safety. Every person we work with could be someone's dad / mum, son / daughter, husband / wife, brother / sister, even though they are young. Our job is not to judge, our job is to provide exceptional care with kindness and compassion.
The role is challenging but also incredibly rewarding. Interactions with these young people can influence their thoughts on their future outlook. You will be an advocate for the young person's healthcare needs and promote the importance of their wellbeing within the establishment. Health and wellbeing is one of the pathways to reducing re-offending, meaning you can make a real difference. It takes a very special, dedicated, resilient and caring nurse to provide care in such an ever changing, dynamic environment and you will be joining likeminded exceptional healthcare professionals.
Working alongside the CAMHS and Substance misuse team s affords us the benefit of being able to work in a truly holistic manner, responding to the needs of both physical and mental well-being in partnership. Additionally, you will work with prison departments, including all the wing staff, education, safer custody, probation.
You will be involved in seeing all young people that are new into the secure setting. Skills will involve assessment, reassessment, risk assessment and management of a variety of health needs. No two days are ever the same, as a Sister / Charge Nurse you will be responsible for leading the team on a daily basis in a hands on clinical role. The teams are wing based; each Team Leader has their own wing which require case management. You will also facilitate nurse led clinics, administer medication, immunisations and vaccinations, triage and treat minor illness / injuries, attending emergency situations and delivering age appropriate health promotion sessions to this complex, yet rewarding client group.

As a passionate and committed registered nurse, your aim is to achieve the best health and wellbeing outcomes through tailored interventions that ensure young people's health needs are met when they return to community setting or transfer to another secure environment. You will have proven leadership skills, with the ability to make clinical decisions autonomously within a fast paced changing environment. You will be a dynamic, positive clinical leader with good organisational skills. You will be creative and supportive, assisting in managing change within the service at a clinical and operational level. You will provide operational management to the primary care team; you will work alongside the current Sister / Charge Nurse and Primary Care Manager to provide the young people in our care with a comprehensive and high quality health service.
