Could you be the person we are looking for?

Are you caring, innovative and passionate about your work?

Do you enjoy learning new skills?

Do you value putting your patients first and working with them towards recovery?

Do you have leadership skills?

If so, then you ARE the person we are looking for.

We have a really exciting opportunity for a registered nurse (RMN, RGN, RNLD) to spend a 12 month secondment, with potential for it becoming a substantive post, working on our Eating Disorders Inpatient Unit as a Deputy Ward Sister/charge Nurse. No previous experience of working with people with an eating disorder is required as we will offer you a bespoke training package to equip you with the specialist skills you may need. This may be an opportunity for you to learn new skills in a supportive and dynamic environment or the start of a new career path in this highly specialist area. We want to invest in you as our strength is in our team and the people who work with us.

The post is based on Langley Ward, a 15 bedroomed ward at the Bennion Centre, Glenfield Hospital Site. We offer support and treatment to men and women who have anorexia nervosa and need more intensive help to recover. This help is both physical and psychological, as they need help with working on weight restoration and support with managing the mental challenges this can bring. You will be offering individual and group treatments to patients whilst also supporting their carers or families. You will find the role challenging but intensely rewarding.

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, who work together to help your patients achieve their individual recovery goals. You will be key worker for a small caseload of patients, working with them from assessment through to care planning and discharge. You will be offered regular clinical supervision, both group and individual, to support your practice and regular team meetings for effective communication. You will also be able to take part in our weekly CPD programme, where we have an extensive range of internal and external speakers. You will be expected to join the Management Team, to contribute to service provision, effective communication and clinical innovation in a supportive environment.

You will also have some experience at leadership, both in terms of managing staff and in taking the lead in developing services. The role will need you to line manage staff, to support the Ward Sister and to lead by both practice and policy. We are really keen to find someone who has skills at organising themselves and others, the ability to plan with a strategic view and the compassion to support staff and patients. Ideally we would like someone who has experience of a leadership role, however if you can show us your potential we would be delighted to work with you to develop that.

As well as mandatory training, you will be offered many learning opportunities, including CBT, Mindfulness, Interpersonal Skills, Psychodynamic approaches, NG Feeding skills and others. There will be opportunities for you to work alongside day programme colleagues offering group therapies and you will liaise with outpatient therapists and Consultants where needed. You will have opportunities to undertake some managerial training as well as experiential learning for the role. We would be looking at encouraging you to develop your skills by leading specific areas of both clinical and operational aspects of the role.

We have a strong culture of research and a continuous drive for improving quality, so you will have opportunity to contribute to our ongoing programme. You will be encouraged to contribute to the running of the service and to lead on specific areas of interest. We want to invest in you and your career, but also want to gain from your experience and innovations.

You will need to be able to work flexible shifts to cover the Ward and have good computer skills. We are currently using RiO electronic patient records system but will be moving to SystmOne in this summer, so experience of this will be useful. We will seek to offer you the most out of your secondment and can guarantee an experience different to most other inpatient wards.

Interested? We would love to hear from you.

Please contact Ward Sister Maureen Williams for more information.
