Genetic Counsellor in Cancer Genetics

Band 7


St Bartholomew’s Cancer Centre is a national referral centre for all forms of cancer and provides services to a catchment area of more than one and half million people in East London and the city.

St Bartholomew’s hospital is looking to recruit a permanent band 7 genetic counsellor (37.5 hours) to work in cancer genetics. The post holder will be a core member of the Clinical Genetics team at the North East Thames Regional Genetics Service (based at Great Ormond Street Hospital) which has responsibility for providing genetic services across North-East London and Essex and will provide a high quality genetic counselling service, as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will be based at Great Ormond Street Hospital but will hold most clinics at St Bartholomew’s hospital.

Applicants should have previous experience of cancer genetics and of managing an autonomous clinical caseload.

Applicants are expected to be registered with the Genetic Counsellor Registration Board (GCRB) to be appointed at Band 7. Applicants registered with equivalent overseas boards may also be considered for band 7.

Applications will be considered from individuals who are not registered or not yet eligible to register. Appointment will be at band 6 until Registration is achieved.

This is a unique opportunity to work, not only with genetic counsellors and consultants but also with other cancer specialists. The post-holder will need to attend multi-disciplinary team meetings and liaise with all relevant medical professionals to best meet the needs of patients. There is a strong commitment to staff personal development, education and training and members of staff are expected to pursue continuing professional development. There will be opportunities to attend local study days and relevant national meetings
