The Family Division aims to deliver the highest standards of care for maternity, sexual health, gynaecology and a range of acute and community children’s services. The Division is a Centre of Excellence for Women’s and Children’s services and has a credible and enviable reputation. Bolton is one of the three tertiary neonatal intensive care units in Greater Manchester, with 37 cots (9 Intensive Care, 7 High Dependency, 21 Special Care) co-located with a new, expanded maternity unit delivering around 6000 babies per year.

Bolton NICU delivers all levels of neonatal medical services and is supported by a well-developed tertiary obstetric service. The hospital has a busy acute paediatric unit, a dedicated children’s A&E and supporting children’s community nursing service.

In 2019, we admitted 613 babies out of which 82 babies were less than 30 weeks. Our transitional care ward is expanding and we have one of the lowest admission rates for term babies in the Greater Manchester. In 2019, we had over 2700 days of intensive care and 2400 days of high dependency days.
