We are seeking a highly motivated Clinical Fellow to join the Department of Thoracic Surgery at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
This is a full- time post, for 6 months in the first instance extendable to 12 months. Although previously held by senior trainees, the post can be tailored to the needs of a junior or a senior trainee who can demonstrate a clear interest in general thoracic surgery.

The unit has major interests in mesothelioma, minimal access thoracic surgery, surgery for emphysema and clinical research.

The successful candidate will be allocated a named consultant supervisor for the duration of the post, and will be supported to contribute to the department’s clinical research programme. Clinically, they will receive training in the assessment, peri-operative care and operative management of thoracic surgical patients. This post is not recognized for training and does not have postgraduate deanery approval.

This post is not approved for training and does not carry an NTN, although recognition of the year as sub-specialty training for those in UK training schemes may be sought by the applicant from their Deanery as an OOPT.

Clinical Fellows will be encouraged to maintain WBAs on the ISCP system and to apply for ST3 posts in Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Previous clinical fellows have been supported to secure ST3 posts and Consultant Posts based on their previous experience.
