Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant post in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine.

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust provides acute and specialist paediatric services for Leicester and the surrounding hospitals in the South East Midlands including: allergy, congenital heart disease, endocrinology, ENT, gastroenterology, haematology, neurology, NICU, oncology, paediatric surgery, PICU, and respiratory medicine.

The paediatric respiratory service is a vibrant, proactive, and cohesive team comprising of 3 substantive NHS consultants, 1 locum NHS consultant, 1 academic associate professor, 1 CF fellow, 1 asthma research fellow, 1 GRID trainee, and 7 respiratory specialist nurses. We have a long-standing reputation for high quality clinical care, research and education, with our staff’s commitment to excellence reflected in our consistent performance at the highest level.

Working as a multidisciplinary team, we provide care for children with difficult asthma, cystic fibrosis, airway and sleep disorders, complex and rare respiratory disorders, children with non-CF bronchiectasis, and have a close working relationship with the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre. We also provide care for children on long term invasive and non-invasive home ventilation, and host one of only three diagnostic centres for primary ciliary dyskinesia in the UK.

Our paediatric investigation unit provides a comprehensive diagnostic service including bronchial challenge testing, plethysmography, respiratory polysomnography, home oximetry and capnography, multiple breath nitrogen washout and induced sputum testing. The paediatric flexible bronchoscopy service comprises of regular planned theatre lists, joint bronchoscopies and MLBs with ENT, and ad hoc bronchoscopies in the emergency theatre or on intensive care.

The successful appointee will be expected to participate in the paediatric respiratory consultant of the week rota (including on calls for telephone advice), outpatient clinics, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and clinical audit. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team. As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced police criminal records disclosure will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application.
