Specialist Pharmacist – Cancer Services (Band 7)

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Oncology & Haematology Specialist Pharmacist to join our friendly team. You will work within a team of Pharmacists and Techniciansproviding clinical, technical and prescribing support to Haematology, Oncology, Clinical Trials and Aseptic Services.

University Hospitals of Leicester provides a Cancer and Haematology service from the Leicester Royal Infirmary site serving population of over 1 million. The chemotherapy service at Leicester is expanding with increasing access to new treatments. We are offering treatments in-house, through outreach services and we may in the future, offer treatment at other locations within Leicestershire.

At the Leicester Royal Infirmary site we have 73 in-patient beds supporting the Oncology, Haematology and Palliative care services. Oncology and Haematology services are offered for a full range of malignancies and there is a Bone Marrow Transplant Unit on site in addition to the Haemostasis and Thrombosis Unit. We are a busy Cancer Unit and alongside our busy in-patient, outpatient and day-case units we have over 80 Oncology and Haematology clinical trials open with a large number in set up.

UHL Pharmacy is an innovative service and is committed to working in an increasingly paperless way. To facilitate this change the hospital has electronic prescribing across in-patient areas including chemotherapy. The department is developing ways to integrate medicines management systems utilising new IT solutions. This will be combined with better use of information to drive efficiency and effectiveness.

Full training will be provided but relevant post registration experience in hospital pharmacy, the demonstration of good communication skills and sound current clinical knowledge will be essential to being effective in this role. You must have had written confirmation that you have passed all elements of your post graduate certificate in clinical pharmacy and be progressing to completing your diploma. Whilst Independent prescribing is not a requirement it is anticipated the post holder will seek to qualify to support the wards and Cancer Services.
