We are seeking a mental health practitioner to work in a strong multi-disciplinary setting delivering a service for young people and their carers / parents in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Leicestershire. The post holder(s) will be working within the Young People’s Team.

The Young People’s Team is one of the specialist teams based within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, for children and young people deemed to be at high risk of developing mental health disorders; serving children and young people living in Local Authority Care, Adopted Children, Homeless children and young people known to the Youth Offending Services.

The Young People’s Team is multi-disciplinary, based at Westcotes House and receives referrals of young people up to the age of 18 years and covers the entire spectrum of mental health disorders. The team is well established and can provide good levels of supervision and a personal development programme to help achieve further relevant training targets.

The post holder will be managing a defined caseload as a qualified clinician, providing Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services across the team. The post holder must therefore have a relevant core profession (e.g. CPN, OT, Social worker) and be experienced in mental health. Experience of working with one or more of the client groups served by YPT is essential for this post. The post holder must have a well-developed knowledge of the impact of abuse and trauma on children and the implications of this in practice. Accredited therapeutic training is desirable.

We are a large multi-disciplinary service of over 180 professional staff serving a general population of nearly 1 million. Our CAMHS service is comprehensive and in addition to three outpatient teams has specialist teams which in addition to the Young People’s Team include inpatient adolescent services, learning disabilities, primary mental health services, looked after children, Paediatric psychology and a crisis and home intervention service. We strongly encourage research and post qualification training and have good links with the department of psychology of Leicester University. We are well resourced for equipment and clinical resources.

Enquiries should be made to Dr Jeanette Bowlay-Williams (Consultant Clinical psychologist) on 0116 295 2998.

We are committed to providing the best care that we can to our patients, and so some of our roles involve a Maths and English assessment. Where this is so, details will be shared with you as part of the recruitment process.

Details of our benefits, pledge and other important information about the application process, and working for us is contained in the documents linked to our advert.

For areas where our teams work to staffing rosters, rosters are set in advance at a team level and you will be joining an established roster. Your rostered shifts will be confirmed to you when arranging your start date. We will consider requests to vary working patterns in line with our flexible working policy.

To make the most of your application, we may consider successful applicants for vacancies for the same post in different locations where this is appropriate and meets our mutual requirements.

For all substantive roles the appointment of every new member of staff (excluding medical and dental staff) to a post is subject to a 6 month probationary period, details of which are in our Probation Policy.

We aim to develop a workforce that reflects our service users. To this end we actively implement equal opportunities in employment and service delivery and seek people who share our commitment. We strongly encourage applications from all sections of the community, particularly from underrepresented groups, including members of our black and minority ethnic communities. All jobs will require permission to work in the UK.

Requests from applicants to work alternative hours to those advertised may be considered.

Applicants who are currently ‘at risk’ within the local NHS, and meeting essential criteria will be given preference for interview over any other candidates who may apply for this post.
