WESSEX REGIONAL GENETICS LABORATORY

HEALTHCARE SCIENCE PRACTITIONER SPECIALIST

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two full time permanent Healthcare Science Practitioner Specialist/ Senior Genetic Technologists to join our innovative and dedicated Genomics team based at the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.

The Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory, a member of the Wessex and West Midlands Genomic Laboratory Hub (WWMGLH), is a UKAS accredited laboratory at the forefront of NHS Genomic Medicine, providing state-of-the-art integrated diagnostic testing services for the diagnoses of rare disease and cancer at a national and international level. The laboratory has a close association with the Wessex Clinical Genetics Service, the University of Southampton and hosts high profile basic academic research.

The key role of the successful candidate will be to provide specialist technical services to the High Throughput Screening Facility within the Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory. They will work as an integrated part of a small team, principally performing library preparations for next generation sequencing. Excellent communication skills, meticulous attention to detail and ability to carefully follow standard operating procedures is of paramount importance. Ability to trouble shoot, problem solve and work on own initiative when appropriate is required. Applicants must have a recognised degree, preferably in a life science; extensive relevant laboratory experience equivalent to postgraduate diploma level of knowledge is essential. Experience with Next Generation Sequencing technologies, robotic liquid handling platforms and automated laboratory processes would be particularly advantageous.

We are committed to the training and continuing development of all staff. We encourage and support technologists to gain professional registration with the Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS).

Part time applications/job share will be considered as long as the total wte can be covered.
