Transform lives – every single day.

For an inspirational supervisor or manager, this is a unique opportunity. We’re currently looking for a dynamic individual with considerable management experience in the NHS to lead an industry-leading tissue retrieval team – someone just like you.

You’ll lead a team that coordinates one of our national tissue retrieval services – services capable of transforming 100 people’s lives every week through tissue transplantation. With your help, we’ll safely and efficiently collect and store tissues, comply with regulations, and make the most of these valuable gifts.

Taking charge of a six-strong team, this is a high-performing unit who are keen to learn. As such, you’ll develop their skills, help them meet targets and improve standards. Joining the rota, you’ll benefit from flexible hours, predominantly based around 9-6, but with the scope to start earlier or later. You’ll develop your own skills too, taking on one tissue retrieval shift per week. For one week out of five, you will also take charge of coordinating all retrieval teams nationally. Thinking on your feet, you’ll develop a comprehensive oversight of how many patients have passed away daily, and once the relevant consents are in place, you’ll put the wheels in motion to allocate the right retrieval teams to the right places. Time is of the essence in this role, so you’ll need to be a lateral thinker and problem solver – making sure we make the most of every donation.

In short, you’ll have a huge impact that will be felt across hundreds of lives every month. To make the most of this fast-paced challenge, a BSc in a biological sciences discipline would be preferred, or alternatively you might bring significant management experience to the role. Whatever your background, you’ll have proven leadership skills, masses of compassion and a meticulous approach. Comfortable learning new systems and a natural mentor and communicator, you’ll enjoy the responsibility that comes with being the link between our retrieval teams and the National Referral Centre.

At NHS Blood and Transplant, you can be sure of a fantastic working life. The Leeds team is part of a larger UK-wide operations department, so there are lots of opportunities to develop new skills and fulfil your ambitions. Our working environment is exceptional too, with supportive and friendly workmates who want to help you succeed. We offer flexible working patterns, and you’ll benefit from a competitive package that includes 27 days of leave (plus 8 bank holidays) and a defined benefit pension scheme.

But ultimately, the real reward is the work. We’re the backbone of everything that the NHS does – providing you with the perfect opportunity to shape and enhance a service that impacts on every person in the country.

This advert will close at midnight on Sunday 28th April 2019.

Interviews will be held week commencing 13th May 2019.
