Patient Blood Management is a multidisciplinary, evidence-based approach to optimising the care of patients who might need blood transfusion and builds on successes of the Department of Health‘Better Blood Transfusion’initiatives. This senior nursing or scientific post will play a key role in supporting clinical colleagues in hospitals to implement and deliver Patient Blood Management.


The post holder will make a significant contribution to enhancing safe and effective transfusion practice including avoiding transfusion and the promotion of alternatives to transfusion. They will be responsible for leading activities designed to support Patient Blood Management in a defined geographical region which will include the provision of on-going programme of support, education, audit, research and specialist transfusion advice. The Patient Blood Management Practitioner will be required to interact closely with a wide range of multi-disciplinary teams. They will be part of a national team which ensures a co-ordinated approach to improving practice.


The normal working hours for this role are 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday (exact hours to be discussed at interview).


This post will be based in the South West Region; the base location is to be agreed with the successful candidate. Please note, driving is desirable, however, you will be expected to travel as part of this role.
