A unique opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Lead Specialist Dietitian post which will be evenly split between two specialist services, the Inherited Metabolic Disorders (IMD) and the Ketogenic Diet Service (part time options considered).

The metabolic post will continue to develop the service in line with national and international guidelines. You will be working alongside the current Band 7 Metabolic Dietitian, Band 6 Dietitian, a Dietetic Support Worker and have clerical support. The successful candidate will work with a progressive, supportive team of specialist consultants and metabolic clinicians. We see a diverse range of metabolic conditions and the post holder will have the opportunity to manage these patients in the paediatric and adult services.

The Paediatric Ketogenic Diet Service post will work with an enthusiastic multidisciplinary team including a Paediatric Neurologist, Nurse Specialists and Psychologist. A structured pathway of care, assessment, education and monitoring is provided to children with epilepsy and their parents/carers. This post sits within the Dietetic Department based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. The services are delivered predominately to outpatients with some inpatient contact. Both specialties require some home/school visits and the IMD service provides a regional service with outreach clinics in Teesside and North Cumbria.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with either previous metabolic and/or ketogenic experience or substantial dietetic experience who wants to develop a high level of expertise in this specialist and rewarding field. You will need to demonstrate insight into the challenges of managing emergency treatment and engaging patients with chronic conditions. You require excellent leadership and communication skills and will lead on audit, policy development and training together with development of the Band 6 Dietitian and Dietetic Support Worker. CPD is encouraged and training will be provided in service and through national courses and conferences.

You will be joining a friendly and innovative team of dietitians who work in a wide range of tertiary specialties including Diabetes, Cystic Fibrosis, Oncology, Renal Medicine, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Gastroenterology.
