Band 5

(Full/Part Time)

Do you want to develop your acute surgical skills?

In the next 18 months we will be consolidating our Gastrointestinal Surgical emergency take at the Leicester Royal Infirmary site moving from the Leicester General Hospital. We are currently planning the development of a bigger triage area to accommodate our acute surgical patients along with another emergency surgical ward adjacent to the SAU. This is an exciting time for us to redesign the patient pathway along with influencing the refurbishment and development of our existing accommodation.

We are looking for enthusiastic motivated individuals who thrive on the challenge of this fast paced area. You must be able to work on your own initiative and be forward thinking with good prioritisation and organisational skills. Excellent communication skills are key not only to improving your patients experience but also to contributing towards effective teamwork.

Ward 8 is a 30 bedded Gastro-intestinal surgical assessment unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary. The area receives all acute general surgical admissions including upper and lower gastro intestinal disorders either directly from the Emergency department or direct referrals from GP’s for assessment/ admission. In addition, the unit has a dedicated triage area which includes both ambulatory and a trolley area for assessment prior to decision to admit.

There are great opportunities to develop both in the admission unit and the assessment area to enhance both your assessment and surgical skills.

In return you will have your own personal support through the ward team and practice development nurse, in order to meet your own development needs.

We also offer bespoke rotational opportunities available between the surgical assessment unit, our inpatient elective GI surgery ward and gastroenterology. These can be arranged between two or all three areas dependent upon your wishes and needs.

For further details / informal visits contact:

If you would like more information or an informal visit please contact Clair Gibson on 07950891213 or Jenny Carlin Deputy Head of Nursing on 07949281548.

We will close vacancies prior to the published closing date if we receive a sufficient number of completed application forms.

Preference will be given in the first instance to existing NHS employees within the East Midlands healthcare community who are ‘at risk’ of redundancy. Such employees within the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust will be considered first.”
