The Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Vascular Nurse Practitioner to join our Northern Vascular Unit. The successful candidate will be innovative and highly motivated, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The Nurse Practitioner will have the ability to use their initiative and work within the unit’s multidisciplinary Vascular team which provides a service for NuTH and Gateshead health Trust. The post incorporates the nurse practitioner role in providing leadership for the emergency pathway patients and the vascular specialist nurse team.

This role will also support the consultant and nurse led vascular clinics, which will include hot foot clinics to triage patients through their diagnostic pathway for forthcoming procedures. The successful candidates will also be expected to support inpatient pathways within the unit. They will manage their time effectively whilst providing patients and the clinical teams with advice and guidance, within defined parameters and training.

The successful candidate will be a facilitator for training and education. Once qualified the post holder will be expected (after appropriate experience) to work towards training their team to incorporate further practitioners.

Once fully trained, the candidate will be expected to lead the emergency pathways as inpatient and also manage tertiary referrals .This will encompass sites at both Newcastle Hospitals and Queen Elizabeth hospital. We also receive patients form outside our area for complex interventional radiology procedures. Any successful candidate will be required to work flexibly across all hospital sites.

Applicants must be a Registered General Nurse with post registration experience in surgical, vascular or emergency /urgent care departments. If you are currently a qualified nurse holding a clinical skills /practitioner qualification you will be appointed at a Band 7. If you are interested in undertaking clinical skills/practitioner qualification or equivalent you will be appointed at a Band 6. Once you have successfully completed the recognised course you will progress to a Band 7 this process is expected to take around18 months.
