Donor Carer

We receive over 2 million blood donations a year, but you don’t need a medical background or any qualifications to help us get them. We just need your friendly, flexible approach to make our volunteer donors feel welcome, at ease and valued.

We’ll train you to test if someone can give blood, perform venepuncture (using needles to take blood), update records and give basic clinical advice and aftercare. Naturally, you’ll need to be comfortable with the sight of blood.

It’s your passion for people and reassuring nature that’s important, and will encourage donors to return and bring family and friends along to donate.

You’ll enjoy plenty of variety including taking the donor through the blood collection process, driving our equipment vehicles, loading/unloading and assembling mobile donation session equipment. You’ll find the camaraderie in the team and sense of pride after each day is hard to beat.

You will be working on a shift basis but but we’ll let you know around two months in advance which days and hours you’ll be working. The normal hours for this role are up to 8 days per fortnight working up to 75 hours over these days, up to 9.5 hours a day. The earliest start time would be 07:30am with a finish time of approximately 18:00pm, if on a late shift you would be finishing at 21:15pm. Weekend and bank holiday working will be required. You can expect to work some long hours, but you won’t be working more than five days a week or even the same days each week.

Along with an attractive pension scheme and other benefits you will receive a minimum of 27 days holiday, which increases with service

This is a great opportunity for you to join a fantastic organisation and to become part of a wider team who help save and improve lives.

We’re an inclusive organisation that reflects the diverse communities we work with and positively encourage applications from all sectors of the community

This vacancy will close at 23:59 on Wednesday 19th December 2018.

Session visits and interviews will take place on Thursday 3rd January 2019 (subject to change).
