Clinical Scientist (Radiotherapy) Band 7

An opportunity has arisen at the University Hospitals of Leicester for a highly motivated HCPC registered Clinical Scientist to join our team. The post holder will work in all areas of radiotherapy physics to both support and develop the service. This is a full time post (37.5h/week) with some evening and weekend work required to meet the needs of the service. Applications are welcomed from those expecting to achieve State Registration within the next 12 months.

The radiotherapy department is based at Leicester Royal Infirmary and provides state of the art treatment including SABR treatments for lung cancer and oligomets, respiratory gating and deep inspiration breath hold for breast radiotherapy. Over 40% of all radical treatments are IMRT, of which 95% are VMAT. All IMRT patients receive IGRT as routine and we have an ongoing program to further increase utilisation. We provide Oncology services to a catchment population of approximately 1 million within Leicestershire and Rutland and are ISO 9001(2015) accredited. We fully support staff development; the department has an impressive clinical trials portfolio and established links with Leicester University. Following publication of the new radiotherapy service specification, Leicester has been selected to host the East Midlands Network.

Equipment includes 3 Varian Clinac iX linear accelerators with OBI, respiratory gating and RapidArc, 1 Varian TrueBeam linac, ARIA Oncology management system, Prosoma Virtual Simulation, Varian Eclipse treatment planning system, 2 Canon wide bore CT scanner with 4DCT, XStrahl superficial unit and Varian GammaMed brachytherapy unit. A replacement programme to include 3 Varian TrueBeam linacs and a CT scanner is expected to commence in 2020.

The Leicester Radiotherapy Department is a friendly, busy and modern training department. It is housed in a purpose built Oncology Unit, which is centrally located with easy access to both road and rail connections. Leicester itself is a vibrant, friendly multicultural city within beautiful countryside.
