If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our friendly, innovative and well respected team at University Hospitals of Leicester.

Following significant recent investment in the team we have a number of opportunities for keen, motivated and patient focused pharmacists to join the Emergency and Specialist Medicine Pharmacy team. We are expanding our team to facilitate the implementation of dedicated ward based pharmacists on each of our medical wards. We are actively working towards integrating Pharmacist Prescribing into the daily practice of all of our team members.


The successful post holders will work in a number of areas to maximise the potential of our service and innovate in leading the way to improve patient safety and optimise the use of medicines.


• Dedicated Ward Based Pharmacist – providing expert Medicines Optimisation as
part of the ward MDT across a variety of clinical in-patient areas
• Infectious Diseases - delivering care in specialist out-patient and in-patient
departments
• Emergency Floor – working as part of the MDT across a range of Emergency
Medicine areas
Within Emergency and Specialist Medicine we provide services to a range of clinical areas including
Emergency Medicine, Neurology, Stroke, Geriatrics, Diabetes, Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases,
Rheumatology and Dermatology.
Successful post holders will be able to be:

In addition to our Dedicated Ward Based Pharmacists we have an opportunity for a Pharmacist to join our dedicated, highly specialised Infectious Diseases team. You will join us in providing specialist pharmacy services to the HIV, Hepatitis and Infectious Diseases clinic (Jarvis clinic). The post holder will spend at least 50% of their time within the specialist ID clinic, with a focus on providing pharmaceutical care for people living with HIV. The post holder will also provide support to our other clinical services.


The Jarvis Pharmacy Satellite provides a full pharmaceutical service to 1300+ HIV positive patients and other patients seen in the Jarvis Infectious Diseases Clinic. The Jarvis Pharmacy team are part of a lively multi-disciplinary team providing top quality care in this challenging and rewarding speciality.


This specific role will involve significant patient contact; counselling patients on their medication, supporting adherence and reviewing medication regimens to ensure patient acceptability and tolerability. An awareness of the importance of patient confidentiality is essential. You will also have day to day contact with clinicians, specialist nurses and clinic admin staff to support prescribing decisions, promote cost effective use of medicines and assist with complex queries.


University Hospitals of Leicester has one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the country with one ED serving a population of over 1 million people. Our acute medicine department also has a large Acute Medical Unit, an Acute Ambulatory Care service, a Short Stay Unit, an Acute Care Medical HDU and 2 Acute Frailty Units; which includes the newly formed Frailty Emergency Squad (FES).

Our extended hours service is supported by a dedicated team on shift working Foundation
Pharmacists to provide 7 day ward based services. We have electronic prescribing embedded across all of our areas and are working towards implementing automated medicines management systems on our wards.


Post holder will be expected to contribute towards evening, oncall and weekend rotas.
