We currently have trust wide vacancies but we are particularly interested to attract and recruit staff with experience or an interest in the following areas:

Musculoskeletal Directorate comprises of 5 Wards, 1 Day treatment ward and Outpatient Departments at the Freeman Hospital and Royal Victoria Infirmary which specialise in all Musculoskeletal conditions. The speciality comprises of a Major Trauma unit, Major Trauma Rehabilitation unit, Neck of Femur unit, Trauma Orthopaedics, Elective Orthopaedics, Soft tissue and bone tumour Sarcoma Service, Emergency and Elective Spinal conditions and Rheumatology Services

  • Dental Theatres

Working within The Dental Theatre day unit requires staff to incorporate several roles into their working day. We perform pre assessment on children and adults prior to organising their dates for treatment. On the day of treatment staff are responsible for delivering care throughout the patients journey from admission, supporting the delivery of treatment and recovery followed by discharge home.

Staff may bring different skills to the role: ward experience in admission and discharge and / or theatre skills (anaesthetics, recovery and scrub), these can all be incorporated to gain experience in pre assessment. Equally the posts are a great foundation for newly qualified staff who are willing and able to develop their knowledge and skills in a varied and challenging way. We work closely with children, Adults and their carers.

  • Interventional Radiology

Is a dynamic forward thinking speciality on both Freeman and RVI sites supporting the delivery of a large range of procedures to elective, urgent and emergency patients. Working in a setting similar to theatre, providing complex interventional procedures such as Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR), carotid artery stenting, vascular embolization, and AV fistula salvage. Interventional oncology procedures include selective chemotherapy, radiotherapy and tumour ablation. You would take part in an on call rota following training.

The RVI endoscopy unit are recruiting band 5 staff nurses to join their JAG accredited unit. Those interested in a post are invited to contact Sister Jillian Doyle prior to the interviews on 0191 2824914

  • Surgical wards

We are particularly interested in people who may wsih to join The Northern Vascular Centre; Freeman. It delivers regional Vascular Surgery and has the Disability Service Centre based within the hospital grounds. The inpatient service is delivered through Ward 8 and it has 31 beds. Ward 8 is a tertiary centre caring for complex vascular conditions. Patients are admitted electively or as emergencies though the Assessment Suite at the Freeman Hospital. The role of the nurse incorporates enhanced wound management skills; psychological support; mobilisation techniques; nutritional support and complex discharge planning. This area provides great opportunities to develop new skills and relationships with a large multidisciplinary patient focused team
