Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in General Clinical Genetics based at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, but with the requirement to travel to undertake clinics in district general hospitals across South Wales including West Wales General Hospital in Carmarthen, Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli, and Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil.

The All Wales Medical Genomics Service (AWMGS) provides clinical genetics services to the 3.1 million residents of Wales from three bases – Cardiff, Swansea and North Wales – offering a mainly outpatient based service. The service provides a comprehensive clinical genetics and laboratory service.

AWMGS is a major stakeholder in the Welsh Government’s plan to create a sustainable, internationally competitive environment for genetics and genomics. The launch and investment of monies to support the Genomics for Precision Medicine Strategy is looking to develop a service that is innovative, responsive and well-connected to the major genetics and genomics initiatives that are evolving worldwide.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services. Academic interests will be encouraged; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University’s School of Medicine will be expected.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £75,881 per annum to £98,515 per annum plus a further £26,671 per annum available in Commitment Awards.

Applicants must ensure they provide the names and contact details of referees covering at least the last three years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
