An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust based in Birmingham covering City Hospital & Sandwell Hospital.

The role is full time 37.5 hours / week Mon – Fri (Flexible Working Hours between 8am -5pm)

The Materials Management Team within the Procurement Departmentis seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, organised and motivated individual in the role of Customer Services Assistant.This role is to enhance the level of service delivered to the Acute trust and to drive improvements. As a Customer Services Assistant you will be responsible for ensuring that Wards / teams within the hospital have a continuous supply of goods in line with the Trust’s Material Management system. The role requires scheduled visits to the departments, undertaking stock inventory using Electronic Data Capture and other Materials Control systems. This will include investigating discrepancies, problem solving, liaising with NHS Supply Chain and conveying information to Ward Managers.


The ideal candidate will have an understanding of best customer service practices and possess the ability to work on their own initiative developing customer relationships and effective order processes. Excellent communications skills are essential and the ability to work unsupervised as well as part of a team. A good standard of general education and numerical competency is required as well as computer literacy. Attention to deal is essential. Previous experience within procurement and the Health sector would be an advantage. The role involves working in an office environment as well as visiting clinical areas to undertake effective ordering of stock within the Trust. The role may require you to work across both sites from time to time but predominately based at City Hospital.

The successful candidate will assist the NHSSC & Procurement Supervisor in providing an effective and professional stores service that delivers on-going cost efficiencies / benefits to the Trust in line with departmental objectives.
