Applications are invited for this Senior Clinical Lecturer position, based on the Brunel campus in Uxbridge, West London. The successful applicant will be a key member of the Medical School Primary Care team. They will have primary responsibility for leading the development and delivery of Primary Care curriculum and assessments for the new MBBS programme. The successful applicant will also contribute to the development and delivery of the Primary Care curriculum for the new MBBS programme, and will have the opportunity for contribution to other areas of the School, including Clinical Communication teaching, OSCE examining and MMI interviewing.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be an experienced General Practitioner, with a track record of excellence in medical education, and experience of teaching medical students and/or PA students. This post is for a period of 2 years in the first instance, renewable.

Brunel Medical School welcomed its first intake of MBBS students in September 2022. It has a number of distinctive features, including team-based learning, programmatic assessment, a House Tutor support system and early exposure to patients in the community. The primary care curriculum extends across all five years of the programme. The PA programme, established at Brunel in 2016, will join the Medical School in August 2023, increasing the opportunities for interdisciplinary teaching and interprofessional learning.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Working closely with the Director of Medical Education and Head of Primary Care, the postholder will have primary responsibility for leading the development, operationalisation and delivery of the Primary Care curriculum and assessments for the MBBS, in accordance with the Outcomes for Graduates (GMC, 2018) and Guidance on Undergraduate Clinical Placements (GMC, 2022). The postholder will also contribute to the Primary Care curriculum and assessments for the PA Programme, in accordance with the Physician Associate and Anaesthesia Associate Generic and Shared Learning Outcomes (GMC, 2022).

Lead the development and delivery of the Primary Care curriculum and assessments for the new MBBS programme, working with the Head of Primary Care and a team of Primary Care Education Fellows, ensuring timely communication with students.

Contribute to the Primary Care teaching and assessments for the PA Programme.

Work with the Education Quality team to ensure appropriately timing and content of student feedback surveys, with regular review of survey responses, timely action plans and communication with students.

Work with the Lead for GP Engagement and Training and Placement Partnership team to ensure that the Primary Care curriculum and assessments are appropriately communicated to GP Educators, and training provided.

Work with the Digital Education team to ensure timely communication of learning resources and briefing information on the VLE.

Work with the ePortfolio team to ensure Primary Care assessments are set up appropriately.

Work closely with Placements Partnerships Manager and Lead for GP Engagement and Training to development excellent relationships with GP Educators, contributing to peer review of their teaching and quality management visits, as appropriate.

Provide supervision and mentoring to Primary Care Education Fellows.

Undertake teaching and assessment in relation to Primary Care, and other areas of the MBBS and/or PA programme, which may include Clinical Communication teaching, OSCE examining, MMI interviewing or House Tutor responsibilities.

To show academic leadership in the design and delivery of high-quality research-informed teaching and student support, contributing to scholarship and administration by:

Using innovative approaches to enthuse and engage students

Demonstrating excellence in teaching, assessment and student support across a range of modules or programmes, and at various levels

Having an in-depth understanding of own specialism to enable the development of new knowledge

Demonstrating effective organisation and management of teaching and learning pro-vision
