Job summary

GP Expansion & Structured Learning Training Programme Directors Fixed Term contracts currently until 31/10/2026 There are 4 posts available - 2 x 2 session TPDs to cover Somerset Devon and Cornwall and2 x 2 Session TPDs to cover BNNSG, Gloucestershire, Swindon and Bath.

The GP TPD for Expansion & Structured Learning programmes will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of innovative training programmes for General Practitioners (GPs) based in the South West. This may include development and delivery such as structured on-line training.

The TPD role will assist the School of Primary Care with expansion of GP training through supporting programmes to enhance capacity of training placements, promoting progress of GPRs through their training schemes, including supporting the expansion of assessment processes.

The role will also build on the publication of the 10 year plan to extend placements to serve the communities and neighbourhood working and build a community of practice for the innovative models of training so educators can connect and share their experience and resources.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work with other TPDs and ADs to provide

Programme Development and Management:

  • Provide additional support to programmes requiring enhancement of TPD capacity.
  • Design and develop a curriculum for Learning Programmes to Support Expansion that meets the educational needs of GP trainees, ensuring the programme complies with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve programmes of learning and support for GPRs based on feedback and educational outcomes.

Instructional Design and Delivery:

  • Integrate various instructional methodologies, including e-learning modules, webinars, simulations, and in-person training sessions.
  • Develop and source high-quality educational content, resources, and materials, ensuring the learning platform is user-friendly and accessible to all trainees.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Support Assessment processes to deliver reviews of an expanded number of GPRs including implementation of assessment tools and strategies to evaluate trainee progress and programme effectiveness.
  • Analyse assessment data to identify areas for improvement and make necessary adjustments and report report on programme outcomes to stakeholders and accreditation bodies.

Coordinate with faculty and subject matter experts to deliver specialized training sessions and engaging with trainee representatives to ensure the programme meets their needs and expectations.

Mentorship and Support: Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to GP trainees throughout the programme including addressing any issues or concerns raised by trainees and facilitate their professional development.

Administration and Coordination: Manage the administrative aspects of any innovative structured learning programme, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.

Ensure effective communication and coordination among all programme participants and stakeholders and maintain accurate records and documentation related to the programme.

  • Attendance at courses aimed to support educational development (example: educator courses, Train the Trainer, etc.)
  • Pro active approach and evidence of CPD within clinical role

  • Approved GP trainer or clinical supervisor
  • Educational qualification e.g. Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, Certificate or diploma in medical education or management
