Join our Medical Equipment Library (MEL) team and play a vital role in keeping our hospital running safely and smoothly.

As a Medical Equipment Library Assistant, youll be at the heart of clinical care making sure essential medical devices are clean, safe, available and ready for patient use across the hospital. Youll work closely with our Clinical Engineering team, nursing staff and ward teams, contributing directly to patient safety and experience.

This post is 2 days a week covering Monday and Friday

Main duties of the job

In this varied and rewarding role, you will:

  • Safely clean and decontaminate a wide range of medical devices
  • Carry out basic fault checks and escalate issues to the Clinical Engineering team
  • Prepare, track and distribute equipment across the hospital based on clinical demand
  • Ensure all accessories and consumables are correctly paired with devices
  • Keep accurate records on the MEL database, including patient and equipment data
  • Offer advice and guidance to wards when requests cant be met

To be proficient, safe and efficient in cleaning /decontaminating all medical devices stored in the Medical Equipment Library and to be aware of the department procedures relating to this process and support any Quality Management System operated in the department

To be aware of all the accessories associated to specific medical devices and to ensure they accompany the medical device on allocation to ensure effective use

To carry out basic fault finding and visual safety checks of all medical devices utilised in the MEL and report effectively to the Clinical Engineering team

To continue with their own educational development and to attend all relevant training associated to the department

To maintain their level of skill and practice to ensure the Medical Equipment Library continues to function to a high standard

To be able to offer advice to wards or departments if their request cannot be met and to provide guidance to nursing and other staff in the use of medical devices.

To ensure that equipment provided for the protection of Health & Safety is maintained and used appropriately

Flexible management and distribution of the MEL stock to meet the needs of the Clinical Teams and the Trust
