Job responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:

• Providing safe, evidence-based, cost-effective and individualised patient care as delegated prioritising own workload and ensuring effective time management strategies are embedded in own practice
• Promoting health and well-being through the use of health promotion, health education, screening and therapeutic communication skills

• Referring patients directly to other services/agencies as appropriate
• Working with nursing, medical and healthcare assistant colleagues to ensure that National Health Service Frameworks (i.e. diabetes, mental health) are being delivered
• Provision of a phlebotomy (blood-taking) service as requested by a registered practitioner
• Carrying out health screening and measurements, including blood pressure; weight, height and body mass index; urinalysis; pulse rate and rhythm; Electrocardiogram (ECG); glucose tolerance test; and peak flow readings
• Maintaining accurate and contemporaneous records to relevant professional standards/guidelines
• Provide a service to promote healthy lifestyles, including for patients with long term conditions, smoking cessation, alcohol use and weight management

The interview may consist of a mix of direct questions and clinical situation-based scenarios.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.

Qualifications

Essential

• National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 Health and Social Care (or equivalent)

Desirable

• Completed a course and have experience of phlebotomy (blood taking)
• Experience of working with the general public, preferably within a service environment
• Experience of using computers, with good keyboard skills
• Previous experience working in hospitals, nursing homes or primary care
• Understanding and knowledge of military and National Health Service (NHS) policies, Clinical Governance
• Good administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise work
• Time management and ability to prioritise workload
