Job summary

The Paediatric Epilepsy Nurse Specialist will work as part of a team providing comprehensive care packages for children and young people with epilepsy and neurological conditions, both in the hospital and community settings throughout Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB), to meet the changing needs of the epilepsy service.

The post will link Community and Primary Care Services using joint protocols and guidelines.

The post holder will participate in the delivery of education for Health Professionals, schools as well as for children and their families within the Epilepsy Service.

This Post will be based between Royal Glamorgan Hospital and Prince Charles Hospital managing caseloads alongside the Epilepsy CCNS nurses on those sites, and supporting other members of the Epilepsy CCNS team where there is a service need.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. Main duties of the job

Work as a member of the Children's Nursing Team to deliver responsive and flexible nursing care and support to children and young people with epilepsy in a diverse range of settings, across all Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) sites. Assess, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care for individual children with epilepsy. To act as a key worker for families. Provide specialist advice and education of a high quality which is child and family centred, and is based on assessed need which promotes social inclusion.

Participate in the implementation of the Framework for assessing children and families for continuing care packages when appropriate in collaboration with the children's community nursing team. Participate in Health promotion initiatives relating to epilepsy. Participate in standard setting and the audit process including the continuing development of protocols for management of children with epilepsy. Participate in quality improvement initiatives. Support and educate colleagues and other health care professionals involved in the care of children and young people with epilepsy. Support and participate in aspects of epilepsy education, including individual and group education. Participate in Consultant led clinics and to work towards facilitating Nurse led clinics once deemed competent. Communicating highly sensitive, complex information surrounding diagnosis, prognosis and treatment on a regular basis.
