Job summary
The Medicines Management Directorate has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and committed pharmacy technician to join our aseptic team, based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
The aseptic unit holds an MHRA Manufacturer's "Specials" licence.
The candidate must have a keen interest in working within aseptic services and be able to work within a highly driven team. The candidate must have previous experience in aseptic services.The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Technicians to assist in the daily running of the aseptic unit. They will participate in the manufacture of aseptically prepared medicines and will ensure that the unit meets EU GMP legislative requirements, delivering quality, patient focused and safe medicines to some of the most critically ill patients treated within the Health Board.You must possess excellent communication and organisational skills, in order to provide an efficient and safe service for these patients in a busy environment.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
You must hold an ACT qualification or be in a position to work towards the Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) qualification in Technical Services.Applicants must have a BTEC National Certificate and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent. ACT accreditation is required to be appointed to a Band 5, although Band 4 candidates who are in a position to undertake the ACT are welcome to apply . Applicants must also be registered with the GPhC.
Job Summary:
- To participate in the preparation of a range of aseptically manufactured products.
- To act as an accredited checking technician (ACT).
- It is expected that this individual will develop the skills necessary to undertake the training and qualify as an NVQ assessor.
- To dispense and issue a range of prescriptions, providing advice and information on medicines to patients, carers and nursing staff.
- To ensure appropriate support is input into Logistics in relation to creating new item files, ordering and general stock management.
- Participate in dispensing and general pharmacy services, weekend and public holiday rotas including acting as an accredited checking technician.
- Support the pharmaceutical service and the medicines management agenda in the UHB.
- Interpreting a range of information e.g. clinical knowledge of specialist use(s) of products, urgency of items, usage patterns and trends, delivery times, current stock holdings, supplier reliability etc.
