The Grange University Hospital (GUH) is looking to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow in Neonatal Medicine. This is an exciting and challenging Tier 2 post.

The GUH Neonatal Unit is a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with 6 IC, 9 HD and 17 SC cots. It caters for 6,000 deliveries and has over 1500 intensive care days annually. Babies of all gestations are looked after here apart from surgical and cardiac babies, which are referred either to the University Hospital of Wales, with whom we have close links, or Bristol.

The Unit is staffed by 10.8 WTE Neonatal Consultants and 1 Associate Specialist for daytime cover and out of hours on call. There is a middle grade 1 in 8 rota and a tier 1 rota with a 1 in 8 on call commitment, comprising clinical fellows, MTI doctors and ANNPs. The post is Working Time Regulation and New Deal compliant.

You must have at least 3 years of supervised training in Paediatrics/Neonatology and a post-graduate degree/diploma (MRCPCH or equivalent or MD Paediatrics or equivalent) from a recognised university or body. Experience of working in a Level 3 neonatal unit is essential. The candidate must have a current GMC registration or be eligible for full registration.

Main duties of the job

This post will form one of 8 WTE middle grade doctors. It will provide very comprehensive training and extensive experience in neonatology including management of normal delivery, complex resuscitation, management of extremely preterm babies (22 weeks onwards), various modes of ventilation including high frequency ventilation and nitric oxide therapy, echocardiography, cranial ultrasound examinations, whole body hypothermia including amplitude integrated EEG, structured neurodevelopmental assessment etc. will be gained by the end of the post.

An excellent educational programme runs in the Unit, including simulation training in acute and communication situations. Candidates will be expected to undertake audit projects, quality improvement programmes and research projects running in the Unit at the time. Successfully completed projects will be submitted for presentation to regional and national meetings.

The candidate will be continuously mentored, and annual appraisal and job planning will be carried out in line with Royal College standards.
