An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Neuroscience Directorate for a full-time Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Movement Disorder Service.
The Movement Disorder service are currently looking to appoint a motivated individual to provide the nursing support for the Movement Disorders Service within the Neurology department at Cardiff & Vale University Health Board. This post is required to support several key developments being implemented to support this group of patients.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
The role involves supporting those with movement disorders, primarily people diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson's disease and dystonia, providing a holistic approach to the care & management of these patients. A key element of the role will be to lead the nurse led delivery of injectable neurotoxins within the dystonia service, and a practitioner with the necessary qualifications to undertake independent prescribing is desirable, or alternatively a willingness to undertake the course as a priority would be required.
In addition, the post holder will provide emotional support for patients/carers from the point of diagnosis and throughout their treatment. The post holder will support the current case load of patients alongside the multidisciplinary team, initially with support and after training the post holder will be expected to manage their own case load. The post holder will use their specialist knowledge, skills and experience to provide individualised care, working autonomously as well as within the team of specialist consultants.
This post is suitable for a registered nurse who has proven clinical experience within the field of neurosciences, ideally with experience of nursing those with long term neurological conditions.
