Birchwood is a large care home with three floors, each with its own specific remit: a nursing unit, a dementia resident unit and a step-down unit. The core purpose of every member of the team at Birchwood is to contribute to the care and wellbeing of the residents within the home.
The nursing floor is able to accept residents who require a higher level of need which may not be able to be managed in a residential home. It is equipped with specialist beds and a range of equipment for moving and handling of residents to support mobility difficulties or who are unable to get out of bed. The care is supervised by a registered nurse who is on duty all day and all night.
This role forms part of the Senior Leadership Team within Birchwood Care Home.
- As the Clinical Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the clinical aspects of care, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and best practice standards.
- You will work closely with the Registered Manager and other healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of person-cantered care plans tailored to the individual needs of our residents.
- You will provide clinical guidance and support to staff, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- You will collaborate with external partners, such as healthcare providers and local authorities, to ensure effective service delivery and foster strong working relationships.
Main duties of the job
To comply with the clinical governance framework and all activities related to it. This
includes leading the clinical audit programme.
To participate in the Care home out of hours on call rota.
To provide leadership and support to clinical staff.
To act as a champion for residents safety and dignity.
In conjunction with the Deputy Manager, to provide effective leadership and support for the
nursing and care team within the home.
To supervise nursing and other clinical staff on a day-to-day basis through formal clinical
supervision processes.
To support new clinical and care staff in the completion of induction programs, training and
competency assessment.
To act as a mentor for new clinical staff joining the team or for those who require specific
support to develop their clinical skills or knowledge.
To oversee liaison with GPs and other health professionals to ensure that residents receive
the medical and clinical support they require.
To oversee the functions of the Named Nurse and ensure the role delivers to its
requirements.
To demand high quality care delivery focused on residents individually assessed needs and choices.
To maintain skills and knowledge and ensure that care is delivered according to latest
guidelines and best practice evidence available.
To ensure the ongoing safety of residents, staff and visitors through systematic assessment,
monitoring and reviewing processes.
