Occupational Therapist - Okehampton CHSCT
This job is now closed
Job summary
The Okehampton team covers a large predominantly rural area including North Dartmoor and so access to a car is essential.
The team is made up of social workers, social care assessors and an OT although we have close links with health colleagues including the rehab team, urgency community response, OTs in other community health and social care teams and the OT Advanced Practitioner for the area.
The team works with adults of working age which may include people with physical disabilities, learning disabilities and mental health conditions. We also support older adults as well as those who are preparing for adulthood.
The team is friendly and approachable looking to support all members in their work. The post would particularly suit an experienced OT due to the more remote location but support can be tailored to your needs.
The Occupational Therapist role is a great opportunity for someone who wishes to develop their skills, knowledge, and experience within the Adult Social Care sector. You will receive a comprehensive induction and be supported through regular 1:1 supervision, appraisal, regular team meetings and access to learning and development opportunities.
Main duties of the job
The role involves working with people with physical and/or learning disabilities, and people with mental health needs and with older adults.
Both telephone and face to face assessments will be required.
Your Occupational Therapy intervention will be determined by the Care Act 2014 eligibility criteria and a strengths-based approach, aiming to promote independence.
Interventions could include signposting or advice, provision of equipment, minor adaptations, recommendations for major adaptations, support with rehousing, recommendation for packages of care or referral onto other teams.
You will support people to promote independence and apply a strengths-based approach which seeks to optimise opportunities for people to reduce and delay their need for formal care and support.
You will work closely with adults with care and support needs, their carers, care providers, and other services to support adults to achieve their outcomes and promote their safety and wellbeing.
You will complete mental capacity assessments where necessary and contribute towards gathering information relating to Safeguarding Concerns and Safeguarding Enquiries when appropriate.
You will be expected to work well individually and prioritise your own caseload as well as work as part of a team. You will be committed to equality and diversity and to achieving positive outcomes for the people of Devon.
