An exciting
opportunity has arisen to join our friendly team at the brand-new THH
Southend Health Centre, opening in January 2026. We are seeking enthusiastic,
motivated individuals to deliver high-quality assistance in supporting
our patients during their clinic appointment. This includes welcoming patients
to the department and acting as a chaperone during scans or examinations.
THH Southend Hub will be open for a 7 day a week service, weekend working will be required with your role.
Main duties of the job
The Patient Assistant will usually be supporting patients during Ultrasound scans but may also support patients in physiotherapy and for other clinic appointments. In addition to supporting the patient, the assistant will also support the healthcare professional as necessary and appropriate during the appointment.
The secondary part of this role is to support the reception function. This is a cross-cover role which would not usually be part of your daily activities but would be necessary in times of short staffing or service requirement.

- Provide healthcare and administration support to our THH clinic ensuring seamless patient journey for all.
- Assist in preparation of clinic environment ensuring all necessary equipment and consumables are available before the clinic start time.
- Support the sonographer / radiographer during the scan.
- Ensure patients are booked in on the appropriate system when they attend their appointment.
- Provide chaperoning services for the clinics ensuring safety of patients and the healthcare professional.
- Provide compassionate and professional assistance to patients, creating a reassuring environment.
- Ensure patient dignity and confidentiality are always upheld.
- Assist patients with personal care needs where necessary.
- Provide cross-cover for general reception areas across the four main THH sites (Grays, Fobbing, Basildon, Southend) when required.
- Assist in maintaining and improving both clinical and administration standards
- Take responsibility for personal and professional development
