Job summary
You will provide safe, compassionate, and efficient patient portering services between the main reception area and the external theatre building for cataract surgery. This role is essential to ensuring a smooth patient journey through the surgical pathway, maintaining comfort, dignity, and reassurance throughout.
In addition, the successful candidate would support the theatre team moving clinical waste as required to the respective receptacles, movement of medical stores and other items as required to support the theatre team and patients.
Main duties of the job
Patient Transfer
- Accurately identify and escort patients from reception to the theatre building.
- Communicate any concerns promptly to the Theatre Manager or Lead of the Day.
- Escort patients back to reception following surgery and recovery.
- Assist patients with mobility needs, including wheelchairs and walking aids.
Patient Support
- Provide reassurance and emotional support, especially to anxious or visually impaired patients.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully to ensure patients feel safe and informed.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and dignity at all times.
Coordination & Communication
- Liaise with theatre staff, reception teams, and clinical colleagues to ensure smooth patient flow.
- Report any concerns regarding patient wellbeing or delays to the appropriate team.
