We are seeking an experienced and passionate Band 6 Sexual Health Nurse to join our dedicated team working across the Oldham, Bury and Rochdale Sexual Health Service.
In this rewarding role, you will provide accessible sexual health screening, advice, treatment, contraception, health promotion, and counselling within both clinic and outreach settings.You will continue to develop your skills, knowledge and experience across sexual health, contraception, and leadership, while supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care.
The successful candidate will work flexibly across all aspects ofSexual Health, Contraception and HIV, demonstrating a progressive attitude, a commitment to continual improvement, and the ability to maintain personal and professional competence.Youwill be expected to supervise and mentor junior staff and nursing/medical students, and to take an active role in the daily leadership and management of the nursing team. Actively participates and leads on audit and quality initiatives.
Applicants should hold recognised sexual health competencies(STIF Foundation or Intermediate), a Faculty Diploma in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (DFSRH),and have a minimum oftwo years experience in sexual health at Band 5 or 6 level.
This is a full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, Monday- Friday 9am-5pm, working 3 days at our Oldham site and 2 days (Thursday and Friday) at our Bury Site. Evenings and Saturdays to be covered.
Main duties of the job
- To autonomously undertake clinical skills for both contraceptive and sexual health patients, including history taking, clinical examination, STI screening, microscopy, results interpretation, immunisations and venipuncture.
- Assesses, plans, implements, and provides follow up care for asymptomatic and symptomatic patients, and those with complex sexual health needs including GBMSM (gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men), within your scope or practice
- Provide advice and opportunistic cytology screening as appropriate, according to policies
- Provide comprehensive holistic assessment of patients social, emotional, and sexual health needs and initiate follow-up and/or referral as appropriate
- Provide treatment
- Promotes and educates patients and external agencies/professionals with regards to sexual Health and HIV promotion, offering PREP, PEPSE, appropriate vaccination schedules, to those who meet criteria. Discussing importance of condom usage and window periods in relation to sexual health screening.
- Within 12 months of commencement of post must have completed Loc subdermal implant training cytology.
- Within 2 years of commencement of post must have completed sexually transmitted infections and intermediate qualification.
- Takes on champion role e.g. infection prevention, safeguarding and/or extended role LOC IUD training.
- Revalidates FSRH and BASHH qualifications every five years.

- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes
While not essential having the below would be desirable;
- V300 Independent Non-Medical Prescriber qualification
- FSRH LoC Intrauterine techniques (LoC IUT)
- Sexual Health Advising.
