Job summary

This role as an Occupational Therapist Assistant at Farmfield Hospital is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of adult men with complex mental health needs, including those with a forensic background. You will work closely with the Occupational Therapist to deliver structured activities and interventions, supporting service users in their recovery journey.

Main duties of the job

As an Occupational Therapist Assistant, you will work under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist to support the delivery of therapeutic activities and interventions for adult men with enduring mental health conditions such as personality disorder, substance misuse, and challenging behaviours. You will contribute to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individual care plans, helping service users achieve their goals and access appropriate services. This role requires excellent teamwork skills, the ability to engage patients in a range of activities, and an interest or experience in recreational and vocational therapies.

Job responsibilities

Join Farmfield Hospital as an Occupational Therapist Assistant and change the lives of adult men 18+ who potentially have a forensic background and enduring mental health illnesses such as personality disorder, substance misuse issues and challenging behaviours.

Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, you will support the service in delivering structured activities and assisting in the planning for individual and group therapeutic interventions. You will build one-to-one rapports with service users to encourage participation in activities and empower recovery. 

As an Occupational Therapist Assistant, you will contribute to the assessment, monitoring, evaluation, and modification of structured activities in order to measure progression and ensure effectiveness. 

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be supported regionally and will have access to a variety of training and online courses to support your career development and growth. 

As an Occupational Therapist Assistant you will be:

  • Assisting Occupational Therapists, Nurses and other MDT staff in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individual care plans.
  • Supporting service users to achieve their goals and access appropriate services.
  • Maintaining adequate records, entering details in the service user healthcare records.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • GCSE/O-Levels (A-C) or a relevant NVQ2.
  • Previous experience gained within a relevant healthcare environment will be advantageous but not essential.
  • To be able to work as part of a team.
  • To have the ability to work with and engage patients in a range of activities. 
  • An interest and/or experience in recreational and vocational activities, such as music, art, sports, education and cooking would be advantageous.
