We're seeking two experienced and highly motivated Designated Nurses for Looked After Children to provide senior clinical leadership and strategic oversight for the health needs of looked after children and care leavers across Kent and Medway.These pivotal roles sit within the ICB Chief Nursing Experience and Quality Officer division and focus on strategic commissioning, safeguarding assurance and system leadership, rather than direct clinical caseload management.Working at system level, you will help shape policy, influence service design, and ensure that the voices and health needs of looked after children and care leavers are central to planning and decision making across the health and care system.

The Designated Nurse for Looked After Children will deliver expert strategic leadership and direction for looked after children throughout Kent and Medway, whilst managing the quality and performance of commissioned looked after children services. You'll provide expert advice to the ICB and contribute to the planning and commissioning of services for children ensuring the needs of Looked After Children and Care Leavers are central to this process

Main duties of the job

  • Take a strategic overview of services for looked after children and are leavers across Kent and Medway.
  • Through effective strategic commissioning, ensure the dedicated looked after children health service in Kent and Medway meets the national statutory requirements for looked after children through appreciate contract monitoring and escalation where required.
  • Contribute to the ICBs strategic commissioning model ensuring looked after children and care leavers health needs are explored through multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) and other policy making forums ensuring that the needs of Looked After Children are included in planning arrangements.
  • Provide expert clinical advice to the ICB, health providers, independent contractors and local authorities on questions of planning, strategy and the audit of quality standards in relation to health services for looked after children.
  • Provide expert advice to commissioners, providers and partner organisations, ensuring that health services for looked after children are safe, effective, equitable and fully compliant with national statutory guidance
  • Provide detailed analytical reports on looked after children and care leavers for the Chief Nursing Experience and Quality Officer via the Director of Safeguarding to ICB Board, relevant sub committees.

  • Registered Nurse, Midwife or Specialist Community Practitioner
  • Educated to Degree Level
  • Experience at senior level
  • Significant post registration experience of working with vulnerable groups relevant to the post
