Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Community Enhancing Recovery Team for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the team and deliver innovative and individualised care to service users across Sheffield, and lead OT's clinically and professionally within the Rehab and Specialist service line.

CERT provides intensive, bespoke packages of care to service users in their own homes, working with service users with mental health problems, personality disorders and/or learning disabilities to support them to move from hospital into their own tenancies. Service users are supported by a full multi-disciplinary team in a psychologically and trauma informed service with the aim of enabling them to live independent and fulfilled lives. The team provides intensive quality interventions primarily between 8am and 8pm, 7 days a week.

The successful candidate will take an active role in leading the wider team in ongoing quality improvement projects, whilst evaluating current occupational therapy practices and developing community pathways. Experience in leadership skills is essential, and alongside being part of the senior leadership team, the role will come with line management responsibilities for a Band 5 OT at CERT, and Band 6 OT's across the service line of Rehab and Specialist including Forest Close inpatient Rehab, and Assertive Outreach services.

Main duties of the job

  • To lead OTs clinically and professionally and AHP staff that work with service users on occupational and vocational pathways across the rehabilitation service line within Rehab and Specialist.
  • To provide supervision to occupational therapists, OT Students, employment, and education workers.
  • To participate in the governance, development, and evaluation of occupational therapy and vocational services within designated areas/teams.
  • To be involved in the development and implementation of community pathways, including group work and the management of a clinical caseload within CERT.
  • To manage a defined caseload of service users within CERT, using evidence based, service user centred occupational therapy skills to assess, formulate, implement, and evaluate specialist interventions.
  • Hold responsibility for defined projects as agreed with service managers and/or professional leads.
  • To lead, develop and implement service changes and act as a specialist resource for occupational therapy and vocational staff, and the wider trust.

    To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment plans for service users with multiple needs to measure progress and ensure the effectiveness of intervention.

    To promote evidence-based practice in occupational therapy.

    To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of work.

    To plan and implement service user centred, individual and/or group interventions, using clinical reasoning and a wide range of treatment interventions to achieve therapeutic goals.

    To contribute to the development of multi-disciplinary best practice guidelines and protocols.

    To apply a good level of understanding of the effect of disability and provide training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to the service users social and physical environment where applicable.

    To assess capacity, gain valid informed consent, and work within a legal framework with service users who lack capacity to consent to treatment.

    To undertake therapeutic moving and handling of service users and equipment, within clinical and non-clinical settings

    To work with service users, carers and relatives who may have distressing social/clinical circumstances.

    Communication

    To establish effective communication networks with service users, carers, other professionals, and services/agencies.

    To communicate complex sensitive and contentious information to service users and carers/families.

    To promote awareness of the role of occupational therapy within the team, locally and nationally.

    To use presentation skills in a variety of settings.
