In-Patient Acute: Jade Ward at Highgate Mental Health Centre
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated general adult psychiatrist to join our Hospital Division.
This opportunity is to take up a post as the Consultant Psychiatrist for Jade Ward, a seventeen-bed acute male treatment ward.
Jade Ward is one of ten inpatient mental health wards at the Highgate Mental Health Centre.
We are looking for a candidate who is clinically skilled in acute psychiatry, with an emphasis on the acute assessment and management of severe mental illness. The post holder must have section 12(2) approval (MHA) and must be an Approved Clinician.
The post holder would join a well-established and friendly team. The post holder would be encouraged to help with service development and to engage in Quality Improvement.
The post holder would be appointed as a substantive Consultant Psychiatrist with the Trust. The post is in the process of being approved by RCPysch. We would nevertheless appoint substantively to the post whilst going through the RCPsych approval process.
Main duties of the job
This is a substantive position. It is for 10 Programmed Activities: 7.5 Direct Clinical Care and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities. All programmed activities will be based on Jade Ward.
It forms part of a well-established hospital inpatient service based at the Highgate Mental Health Centre.
The post-holder will provide overall clinical leadership for the Jade ward multidisciplinary team. With the ward manager they will be expected to ensure systems of clinical governance are in place so that high quality, safe and effective care is delivered for the patients under their care. As a senior clinician they will have an integral role in the performance of the team, and the development of clinical pathways and priorities within the acute service division. It is expected that they will see all their patients at least once per week.
The post-holder will have three overarching goals which will inform their clinical approach. These goals are:

Essential
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice. Must be on the specialist register or within 6 months of gaining a Certificate of Completion of Training
- Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent higher qualification in psychiatry
- Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician status (or eligibility) - qualifies to act as a Responsible Clinician
- Registered with Royal College of Psychiatrists CPD programme and in good standing
Desirable
- Other relevant post-graduate qualification
- Trained as an Educational Supervisor for doctors in training
- Training as a Consultant mentor
