Job summary

We are currently seeking a full time 8a Senior Psychotherapist (psychological therapist) to join the Specialist Psychotherapies Service within PACT (Personality and Complex Trauma Pathway).

This post is open to professionals with a core mental health profession such as psychology (clinical or counselling) art psychotherapy, mental health nursing or a related field with further training and experience in psychodynamic psychotherapy and/or MBT.

Due to retirements, and the current skills mix in the team, we are particularly looking for someone with training as a psychodynamic psychotherapist or a psychotherapist who can demonstrate extensive knowledge, understanding and experience of working in a psychodynamic way.

This is in line with our service aim of continuing and further developing the provision of psychodynamic psychotherapy. The suitable candidate will also have an understanding, interest in or additional training in MBT, or is willing to engage in further training to satisfy the wider needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will provide assessment, to include psychodynamic formulation and psychodynamic psychotherapy for a caseload of individuals meeting the criteria for personality disorders and complex trauma, including dissociative disorders. They will also provide supervision to colleagues, including trainees.

The postholder will also contribute to the provision of Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) within PACT. Currently, we envisage that the successful candidates clinical time will be split 75% Psychotherapy and 25% MBT.

Essential

  • Psychotherapy training to master's level (or equivalent) with significant post qualifying experience.
  • Core Training (Medicine, HCPC Practitioner Psychologist, RMN, Social Work, OT, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Drama Therapy) or demonstrable experience of delivering treatment within statutory services.
  • UKCP/BACP/HCPC registration
  • Formal training in group analysis, or group psychotherapy. IGA Foundation course upwards or willingness to undertake formal training if required.
  • Accredited Mentalization Based Treatment Practitioner or commitment to achieve accreditation.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Managerial skills to include delegation, management of change, supervision and managing resources
  • Experience of providing clinical Supervision.
  • Ability to work under own initiative and to work under pressure.
  • Excellent clinical assessment skills of complex clinical presentations requiring sensitivity to unconscious processes
  • Ability to identify psychodynamic and diagnostic formulations where expert opinions may differ.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses and treatments.
  • Expertise in assessing and treating patients with personality disorder
