Aseptic Unit Manager

As the Aseptic Unit Manager, you will play a key leadership role in delivering a high-quality and patient-centred pharmacy aseptic service. You will oversee the coordination and supervision of technical staff and support workers within the aseptic unit, ensuring safe, efficient and cost-effective operations. This may also include managing the procurement of aseptic products from external suppliers.

In this pivotal position, you will:

  • Lead and develop a skilled multidisciplinary team dedicated to excellence in aseptic service provision.

  • Ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation, standards, and guidelines, including SOPs, GMP (Orange Guide), QAAPS, COSHH and Trust policies.

  • Maintain and enhance quality and safety, ensuring all operational processes are underpinned by robust Standard Operating Procedures and best practices.

  • Drive innovation and improvement in pharmaceutical services, contributing to the ongoing development of the department and the wider pharmacy service.

  • Promote professional excellence, upholding the highest standards of conduct.

You will operate under the supervision of the Accountable Pharmacist or their designated representative, supporting the continued delivery of safe, effective and patient-focused aseptic services across the organisation.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role will be;

  • Responsible for the effective procurement, inventory management and cost control of externally purchased aseptic products.
  • Conduct accuracy checking of oral chemotherapy and associated supportive medications, with opportunity to obtain BOPA passport if desired. ACPT will be offered if not already obtained.
  • Management of our unlicensed aseptic unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, including enrolling onto the pre and in-process checking (PIPC) course (if not already completed).
  • Day to day supervision and support of pharmacy staff working in this technical area.
  • Close liaison with nursing staff and pharmacists to plan the timely delivery of chemotherapy to the day case, inpatients and other aseptic products across the Trust.
  • Close liaison with Quality Assurance Department to ensure the safe and efficient running of the service.
  • Working as a workplace training supervisor & expert witness for pharmacy staff on these training programmes and providing support to these students and training other staff to undertake this role.
  • Completing accredited training on appropriate programme(s) that will be provided.
