Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Main interest Obstetrics)

This post provides an opportunity to pursue a specialist interest inpreterm antenatal, obstetrics governance and maternal medicine atAiredale Hospital which is situated between the spectacularYorkshire Dales and the cosmopolitan centres of Bradford andLeeds.

Main duties of the job

This is a new post, and the successful applicant will join adepartment of 11 consultants.

Obstetric facilities based at Airedale General Hospital includeinpatient and outpatient maternity services. Over 2000 babies aredelivered at Airedale Hospital each year.

Antenatal services are predominantly provided within the maternityunit at Airedale Hospital with 61% of women booked as high-riskrequiring consultant led antenatal services during 2018/19.

Aconsultant will also still lead on the delivery of a planned midwife ledpathway if complications were to arise during pregnancy.

The obstetrics and gynaecology medical workforce is currentlycomprised of 11 consultants and 1 associate specialists who provideessential patient led services.

Airedale General Hospital work jointly with other local NHS providersin the region, including Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS FoundationTrust and Bradford District Care Trust, to help ensure we can delivera patient led collaborative service and thereby promoting a culture ofsafety and improvement

About us

Labour Ward with 8 delivery rooms, four of these are in themidwifery led unit and 4 in the consultant led side. We have adedicated obstetric theatre with a resident obstetric anaesthetist andconsultant anaesthetist on call. The birth rate is currently over 2200deliveries per annum.

Obstetric Ward a 15-bed ward for antenatal and postnatalpatients.

Antenatal Clinic with 2 consulting rooms and four examinationrooms and Ultrasound scanning facility.

Maternity Assessment Unit (MAC) open 6 days aweek, adjacent to Labour ward.

Special Care currently 12 consultant paediatricians, intensivecare cots, management from 26 weeks gestation. Links withRegional Cot Bureau.
