Job summary

The Medical Day Units (MDU) services have grown significantly over the past 12 months with additional staff, extension to opening hours and new pathways.

We are a nurse-led unit, providing treatment for day patients from the Gastro, Endocrine, Haematology, Urology, Rheumatology, and Dermatology departments.

The Ward Clerk role is to act as a receptionist and first line contact for patients to the department.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Ward Clerk is extremely varied. Some of the key tasks include:

  • Maintain effective communication to both patients, relatives and staff in order to ensure the smooth running of the ward; enhancing patient care.Being the first point of contact for patients, relatives and staff both face to face and on the telephone.
  • Provide excellent customer care which may include communication with distressed and anxious patients and relatives, treating them with tact and empathy.Deal with all such communications appropriately, including sensitive issues.
  • Create, input and update MDU admissions/arrivals ensuring data is inputted and notes are scanned onto electronic systems.
  • Provide a proactive and professional welcome to the ward reception, acting as the public face for theTrust
  • Deliver an efficient administrative and clerical service to the Ward Team
  • Ensure all information is secure and confidentiality of information is maintained at all times
  • Ensure the professional image of the Trust is maintained at all times
