Special School Nurse

Job summary

We are looking for a Children's Nurse or Learning disabilities Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team of Special School Nurses in Scarborough. The ideal candidate will have 2 years experience of caring for children ideally with complex health needs and SEND. The role will involve working with both health and educational staff within the primary and secondary special schools in Scarborough and Ryedale.

The successful applicant will need to work with the wider multi-disciplinary team, such as the Children's Community nursing team, therapists and consultants to ensure excellent communication and provide high quality care.

The successful applicant will need to be flexible, working across 4 Special schools in Scarborough. There will also be occasional home visits and Ward visits. Car driver is essential. This role will be workedover 4 days, Monday to Friday including school holidays.

Interviews for this position will be held in person ONLY at Scarborough Hospital. Remote interviews will not be available. The validity of Nursing and Midwifery Council PIN will be checked before shortlisting, inaccuracies in NMC PIN details will mean your application will not be progressed

Main duties of the job

  • Maintain a high standard of patient focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospital NHS Trust policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patient, ensuring accurate records are kept.
  • Contribute fully in the EHCP process.
  • Ensure that national and Trust guidelines are adhered to with specific regard to child protection .
  • Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information .
  • Work independently in various community settings including the home and school.
  • Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the patient.
  • Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct
