Job summary
The Luton and Dunstable Hospital Trust has an opportunity for new staff to join our busy Maternity unit. You will assist the Midwives in providing care to women, and their families, across Luton, Dunstable and surrounding areas. If you are a caring, enthusiastic individual who is willing to learn new skills and undertake a variety of activities within a busy environment we would welcome your application.
We currently have vacancies in all clinical areas; Community, Clinic, Antenatal ward, Delivery Suite, and Postnatal ward.
All Health Care Assistants are required to undertake nationally recognised training programmes in line with this position and will receive a recognised certificate after successful completion. We will provide a comprehensive 2 week induction course which must be attended prior to commencing employment.
You will need to be aged 18 or over to apply for this role. The role involves direct patient care, shifts covering a 24 hour service, and potential travel between Maternity services across Bedfordshire.
You will be required to have a flexible approach to shifts which consist of days, nights, weekends, public and religious holidays.

Main duties of the job
- To help support midwives with the antenatal, postnatal and intrapartum care and assist in parent education including feeding support.
- To aid in ensuring a safe environment for women and their babies both within the hospital and in the community setting.
- To assist with antenatal clinics and visit women postnatally under the direction of the community midwife.
- Attend the mother's non midwifery needs whilst in labour, encouraging and supporting her and her partner and family.
- To assist the midwife with both normal and instrumental deliveries.
- To support women with infant feeding.
