Job summary

This busy well-established Gastroenterology service at Kingston Hospital with an excellent reputation amongst referring GPs. Requires two full time Consultants. The department has established successful specialist expertise, including wireless capsule endoscopy, which attracts referrals from neighbouring hospitals, a GI physiology service, a hydrogen breath test service and a viral hepatitis treatment service which is linked in with St George's Hospital. The department actively supports the hospital's nutrition team and leads the local Upper GI Cancer Services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is expected to provide a first class service in gastroenterology/hepatology and endoscopy supported by junior medical staff. The post holder will undertake outpatient clinics (and supervise registrar and SHO clinics) and endoscopy sessions mainly at Kingston Hospital but potentially also at other sites in the locality as service demands require. The post holder will work closely with other medical and surgical colleagues to provide a seamless service especially for cancer patients and patients referred under the cancer access targets.

About us

The hospital now has a brand-new JAG accredited, state of the art endoscopy unit with 3 rooms and trans-nasal endoscopy suite. We perform approximately 8000 upper and lower GI endoscopies each year, using Fujinon high resolution scopes and has a comprehensive endoscopy reporting tool designed to facilitate GRS reporting. The endoscopy department performs a full range of procedures including oesophageal stenting and is due to transition ERCP at Kingston from St Georges hospital. The service division between inpatient and outpatient endoscopy allows easy access to endoscopy for inpatients and outpatient lists that can run in parallel.

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration (or eligibility to obtain).
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • CCT in Gastroenterology and General Medicine and on GMC's Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT from the date of interview or have confirmed eligibility for Specialist Registration.

Desirable

  • MD/PhD/MBA/MSc

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Current, wide range of general medicine, gastroenterological and hepatology experience
  • Experience of service delivery

Specific Additional Skills

Essential

  • Fully competent in upper and lower GI diagnostic & therapeutic endoscopy
  • Expertise and interest in inflammatory Bowel Disease
