South West London Imaging Academy are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to expand Training Academy. We are aiming to expand our US provisions and further develop our CT provisions.

The Imaging training academy currently has 4 practice educators in post and has delivered around 40 educational events since its inception in February 23.

This exciting opportunity forms part of the London wide Imaging Training Academy and is a fantastic prospect for Radiographers looking to advance their careers.

The roles will form part of a team and each role will have a specific focus and be supported by the Imaging Academy manager as well as the wider SWL Imaging team.

We are looking for forward thinking radiographers who will take a leading role in Training and development across the sector and support recruitment and retention of staff by making SWL an attractive place to work.

Successful candidates will be responsible for designing, implementing and supporting training across the sector in their specific area as well as supporting the wider team with educational events.

The posts will initially be fixed term for 12 months . Applications are welcome from staff for part time/flexible working options.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the SWL ITA Manager, the CT Practice Educator will be responsible for planning, organisation, delivery and assessment of CT educational and training programmes to Radiographers working in the five trusts in SWL.

Key elements of the role will be:

  • performing learner needs analyses across all 5 acute trusts within SWL
  • producing a training an education plan that responds to identified needs
  • identifying training course opportunities for qualified Radiographers
  • co-ordinating and supporting training course application processes
  • performing an assurance role to ensure training providers are meeting SWL expectations of a high quality learning experience
  • ensuring learners are on track with course milestones
  • identifying and supporting failing learners
  • working closely with Superintendent Radiographers across SWL.

Accordingly, we are looking for an enthusiastic, highly organised and motivated senior Radiographer with excellent coaching and mentoring skills to provide clinical leadership and support to this important strand of the SWL Imaging Workforce Supply and Development delivery plan.

Working arrangements

This is an internal secondment opportunity open to Radiographers within any of the 5 trusts within SW London. We are open to more than one person filling the role i.e. full time or part time/ job share and flexible working arrangements.

Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust hosts the funding for this role and is therefore leading the secondment appointment process on behalf of all five acute trusts in SW London: Croydon, Epsom & St Helier, Kingston, St George's and The Royal Marsden.

Successful candidate(s) will continue to be employed by their current employer but will be seconded from their usual duties for the term of this fixed-term secondment to work across all five SW London acute trusts to deliver on the duties and responsibilities set out in the Job Description.

This is a peripatetic role, working across all five acute hospital trusts. The role holder is expected to arrange and attend meetings and training events across SW London and therefore spend the majority of the time on site. There is some scope for remote working, to be agreed with the SWL Imaging Training Academy Manager.

  • Lead on CT education matters across all five SW London acute trusts and help set standards for practice in liaison with Superintendent Radiographers across SWL.
  • Manage the planning, organisation delivery and assessment of the effectiveness of CT educational and training programmes for Radiographers across all acute trust service sites within SW London (SWL).
  • Report to the SWL Imaging Training Academy management and leadership team on training status and progress and provide updates as may be required to other SWL, regional or national meetings as required.
  • Lead the development and implement innovative and creative training programmes and educational material to support staff across all sites and clinical environments, as well as to a diversity of patient presentations.
  • Deliver and undertake formal lectures and specialist presentations on topics including Imaging technique, safety and patient care to both small groups of trainees and large groups in SWL imaging departments (at audit, training and CPD sessions), and externally (conferences, higher education institutions, BSc and postgraduate courses).
  • Liaise and advise on education and practice development for Imaging services.
  • Input and contribute to the strategic development of education and policy making in the wider Imaging service.
  • To ensure familiarity with up-to-date practice and own skills are maintained, perform a range of diagnostic Imaging procedures within the employing trusts services, managing patient priority as appropriate and reporting on findings.
