Locum Consultant in Upper General Surgery

Job summary

Exciting opportunity for a full-time Consultant UGI and Emergency Surgery The post holder will play a key role in realising our ambition to build a high quality clinical service by bringing new skills to the upper General Surgery service.The successful applicant will also contribute, with other Consultant Colleagues, to the care of general surgery inpatients and the surgical on-call rota.

The successful candidate will be required to have and maintain full registration with the General Medical Council. They should be on, or within six months of being admitted to the GMC's Specialist Register for General Surgery.

The candidate will be committed clinician with a track record of excellent clinical service delivery, quality improvement, teaching and training. It is a requirement of the post that every doctor takes part in annual job planning and annual appraisal as part of the revalidation of cycle.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be responsible to the Divisional Director of Planned Care at The Hillingdon Hospital and job plan negotiated annually. It is a 9 + 1 PA post - 7.5 direct clinical care (DCC), 1.5 supporting professional activities (SPA), the latter includes clinical and educational supervision, audit and personal CPD, 1 PA DCC for on call. Personal CPD must be included as part of annual appraisal which is mandatory and required for the revalidation process. The post holders will, together with his or her consultant colleagues and other health care professionals in the Directorate, provide an effective and comprehensive service for older people and support continuing service developments. The post holders will be able to participate in the on-call General Surgery rota on an approximately 1:10 basis. This is under review in line with college guidance and requirement for 12-hour consultant review plus 7 days working. The post holders will be encouraged to develop any areas of expertise of special interest that he or she may have in General Surgery in accordance with the service needs of the department.
