Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of a growing and dynamic interventional Cardiology team, here at Torbay hospital.

The current vacancy is for a 12 PA 12 month fixed term post to designed primarily to support the provision of a local 24/7 Primary PCI rota, on a 1 in 6 on-call rota with prospective cover. Flexibility in cover arrangements are required. Play a part in delivering the Cardiology collaborative programme.

There may be an option to convert this role into a substantive post in the future if the service need requires it.

Main duties of the job

The post holder would be part of a team and would be expected to support the interventional 24/7 cardiology primary PCI rota, ward base and growing outpatient service.

To be proactive in ensuring that all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making, whilst ensuring our standard to deliver safe quality and performance are delivered and sustained.

To provide teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate level and supervised and train the juniors and specialty doctors. To be proactive the in the department's clinical governance agenda and take on leadership roles to support continuous learning and improvement, thereby abiding by the clinical and corporate governance policies of the Trust.

To liaise with clinicians and managers within and outside the department to address any issues arising that may affect the services.

To participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.

To communicate with local GPs

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration (with licence to practice).
  • CCT Specialist Registration or will obtain within 6 months of interview date
  • MRCP or equivalent

Desirable

  • MD/PhD or equivalent

Knowledge, Experience and Specific Skills

Essential

  • Level 3 competence in invasive procedures including angiography, PCI, temporary pacing, pericardiocentesis and echocardiography
  • Fulfilment of BCIS training requirements for Interventional cardiology
  • Recent or current experience in emergency PCI
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Broad clinical experience in cardiology and evidence of appropriately maintained clinical skills

Desirable

  • Experience of adjunctive PCI technology; IVUS, flow wire, rotablation, OCT
  • Level three competence in permanent pacing
