Job summary

We are seeking an exceptional candidate with a passion for mental and physical healthcare to work within the Blackpool Healthier Minds IAPT service.

Nationally IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) services are expected to attract a substantial increase in patient referrals and, in particular, from Long Term Conditions (LTC) cohorts. This role is vital to ensure that physical healthcare and mental health care is integrated and aligned.

Therefore, we are looking for a flexible and highly motivated qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with a special interest, knowledge, and experience of working with people with long term physical health conditions to join the Blackpool Healthier Minds team. This role will involve leading the team with regards to further developments associated with the implementation of Long-Term Condition integrated working and providing Clinical and Case Management supervision to CBT therapists within the team.

The successful candidate will form part of the Blackpool Healthier Minds leadership team. They will have completed either an IAPT High Intensity CBT course or a Post Graduate Diploma in CBT and be accredited with the BABCP. The successful candidate(s) will also have completed an NHSE approved IAPT LTC (Long Term Condition) training.

Main duties of the job

We require a flexible and highly motivated qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist to undertake the role of Long Term Conditions Lead withBlackpool Healthier Minds IAPT Service. The post holder will provide High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to clients who have a range of anxiety and depression related problems for which CBT is demonstrated to be clinically effective. The post holder will specifically deliver CBT to people referred to the service with long term physical health conditions and provide supervision to other staff including those trained to deliver CBT to people with long term physical health conditions. They will also take the lead in developing Long Term Condition Pathways with physical health services.

The Blackpool Healthier Minds team includes CBT therapists, Counsellors and Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, providing psychological assessment and brief therapies to people with mild to moderate anxiety and depression. We also offer EMDR, "Stress Control" courses, and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy courses as well as a range of webinars to support health and wellbeing.

The successful candidate will also be required to work a proportion of their working hours after before 9am and/or after 5pm in order to improve access to the service.

The post holder will work with clients who have a range of complex anxiety and depression related problems as well as a LTC. The post holder should be committed to promoting equal opportunities.

  • Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service.
  • Assess clients for suitability for psychological interventions.
  • Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the departments referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary.

  • To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment of clients in line with the service.
