Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for development within the Sandwell School Health Nursing Service. We are seeking highly motivated, committed, innovative nurses with a desire to make a difference to children and young people working within the public health agenda.

Main duties of the job

As a student School Nurse you will engage in training in order to complete the BSC (Hons) Degree in Community Health (Specialist Practitioner award in School Nursing) .This will involve liaising with all relevant parties within the practice area and at the assigned University in order to gain the desired 50% theory and 50% practical element of the course, in order to attain successful completion the student will be required to work as part of a multi disciplinary team within the School Nursing Team, carrying out clinical duties with Patients/clients as agreed with your Lead nurse for development and training within the service.

Job responsibilities

As a Student SCPHN you will be required to:

  • Comply with and fulfil the objectives of the School Nursing Team
  • Participate in the setting of personal objectives with Lead Nurse for Development and Training (School Nursing) through the job appraisal and clinical supervision processes
  • Demonstrate nursing procedures where applicable
  • Engage fully with allocated university
  • Complying with SWBHs policies, procedures and guidelines and with relevant statutory/ Department of Health directives
  • Ensuring data is inputted onto systemone accurately and on time as required by SWBH.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication networks within the service and with other health professionals, statutory and voluntary agencies
  • Accurately and timely recording of all care given to the patients and report any changes in the patients condition to the general practitioner or other members of the health / social care team.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, case conferences and other meetings as required
  • Identify the multiple needs of the patient, family / carer giving counsel and advice appropriate to the situation
  • Use the knowledge and skills necessary to assess individuals and groups in an holistic way taking into consideration cultural differences
  • Work within the primary care setting as a member of the health care team, participating in activities, which address the health needs of the caseload
  • Provide and maintaining a high standard of care for patients in their homes, health centres and practice surgeries using a model of care, that is consistent with best evidence, within own scope of practice and legislation
  • Identify, plan and undertake specific health promotional activities with identified target groups
  • Ensuring that concerns and identified potential risks are referred / escalated appropriately

  • First Level Registered Nurse.
  • Current NMC Registration
  • Portfolio evidence of continual professional & academic development
  • Evidence of attainment 120 credits at level 2
  • Appropriate entry level criteria for the university education programme, and at least 120 credits at level 5(diploma)
  • For those wishing to undertake the degree at post graduate diploma level - applicants should hold an appropriate degree

Desirable

  • Mentorship qualification/experience
  • Evidence of the conditional offer from the university
